Most powerful spells in Harry Potter

One of the greatest advantages of being a wizard is the ability to cast different spells that have unique powers and uses. In the wizarding world we find many powerful Harry Potter wands and spells, from the classic disarming Expelliarmus to Voldemort's instant death, Avada Kedavra. Here we take a look at some of the most powerful spells in the wizarding world. 

Expulsion

The curse was used to create immense explosions that shattered the target with a beam of blue light. It had enough strength to throw people against the walls. Expulsion was never seen in the movies, but a very similar spell known as Bombarda Maxima was. It is the most powerful form of explosive enchantment,  that causes large explosions powerful enough to tear down walls. Professor Umbridge uses this violent spell to fight her way into the hidden room of requirements in the Order of the Phoenix.

Confringo

The explosive curse (Confringo) was a curse that made the target explode. This curse was very dangerous and potentially fatal. Confringo curse exploded the desired target when properly cast. To add even more danger to this spell, flames are created, which ignite upon contact with the selected target. If Confringo does not kill the target immediately, they are bound to suffer a slow and painful death.

Sectumsempra

Sectumsempra was a curse invented by Professor Severus Snape that injured the target and caused severe bleeding. Snape created it as a Hogwarts student and intended to use it against his enemies. Unaware of its dangerous effects, Harry considered trying several times throughout the year before eventually using it in a duel with Malfoy, with disastrous results.

Firestorm

Firestorm was a spell that created a large ring of fire around the caster's wand. This spell is one of the last and most powerful spells that Albus Dumbledore cast using the elder wand before his death.

Legilimens

The Legilimenz-Zauber (Legilimenz) was a spell that enabled the caster to perform Legilimenz. In other words, immerse yourself in the victim's mind so that the thrower can see memories, emotions, and thoughts. Among the most powerful magicians, this spell can be used to create visions in the minds of its victims and even control their actions. Voldemort used this extensively for Harry and even convinced him to reach the Department of Mysteries with visions of Sirius.

Avada Kedavra

The killing curse (Avada Kedavra) was a tool of the dark arts and one of the three unforgivable curses. It was one of the most powerful and scary spells (if not the scariest) that wizards have known. When successfully cast on a living person or creature, the curse causes an instant and painless death that does no harm to the body and shows no trace of violence. During the First Wizarding War, the Minister of Wizarding Rights, Barty Crouch Sr., temporarily legalized the curse as a desperate measure to win the war against the ruthless Death Eaters.

Imperius Curse

The Imperius Curse (Imperium) was a tool of the Dark Arts and one of the three unforgivable curses. It was one of the most powerful and scariest spells known to wizards. When cast rightly, the curse puts the victim under the caster's control, although a person with extraordinary willpower could resist it. It is known that Death Eaters use this curse in both Wizarding Wars. One of the most prominent examples of this was Corban Yaxley's use of the spell on Pius Thicknesse when he became the new Minister of Magic, which essentially put the Death Eaters in charge.
