Luna Lovegood: Things You Might Not Have Noticed

Luna Lovegood is one of the most distinctive characters in Harry Potter. She is also known as Loony Lovegood by Hogwarts students. She dreamily wanders the halls of Hogwarts, only half paying attention to everything going on around her, thinking about some creatures that most people don’t believe even exist.

Here are six titbits about her that even fans might don't know:

1. Harry Potter Named His Daughter After Her

Harry and Ginny pretty much name all their children after someone they admire. Most of these names come from members of Harry's family that have passed. Luna is one of the few (and somewhat strange) people that Harry decides to name his children after. His daughter's full name is Lily Luna Potter. He and Ginny decide to honour their dear friend in this way because a wizarding world without Luna Lovegood would most certainly be a little less magical.

2. She Was a provisional Quidditch Annotator

 The first few films showed us that Fred and George’s best friend, Lee Jordan, was Quidditch Annotator. He was enthusiastic and exciting, if occasionally a little biased. Somehow, Luna eventually landed the job herself and provided commentary as dreamy and mismatched as you’d expect it to be. Her commentary style wasn’t precisely well-loved, and she didn’t last very long in the role.

3. Her Surname Is A Credential To Her Kindness

In a very opposite way to her first name, Luna’s surname is a connection to the exact opposite side of her personality. While she might be a little far-out, Luna is one of the most deep-down and caring characters in the entire franchise and seems only to have good intentions.

4. She Married Newt Scamander’s Grandson, Rolf Scamander

While it’s unlikely that the areas of the Wizarding World that we all know and love will ever be explored again, we’ve got three more Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them films on the horizon. Rolf eventually married Luna Lovegood, a fellow naturalist. He had an unforgettably shocked expression when he saw Luna's wedding dress. Her dress was decorated with rainbows and spangles, and she wore a tiara of silver unicorn horns. This dress was voted ‘Most Hideous Outfit of the Year' by readers of Skeeter's regular Daily Prophet column. The couple had twin sons named Lorcan and Lysander.

5. And They Had Twins

The two ended up having two children, a set of twins named as strangely as you’d expect.

We don’t know a lot about Lorcan and Lysander, but as Luna and Ginny remained good friends, they likely saw a lot of Harry.

6. Luna Was Taught Divination By Firenze

We meet Firenze in the Harry Potter films, but it is only a fleeting visit to the Forbidden Forest. One of the most exciting storylines that the movie misses out on is his employment at Hogwarts as a divination teacher who clashes intensely with Professor Trelawney. Luna explains at one point that she doesn’t understand why everyone hates divination because she has a great teacher: Firenze.
